It's not easy being a Woodpecker!

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to be a woodpecker? "Well, let's take just a glimpse of one facet of my life.

I'm called Red for obvious reasons, as you can see by my head. I was out flying one day, scouting around for a nice piece of real estate.

You see, I met someone who, I hope will be my wife-to-be and wants to settle down and raise a family. So, the quest to find a site for our new home has begun. As I was combing the area, I found a dead tree that would make a fabulous house with a great view.

Now, it's down to work. I started pecking the front of the tree at just the right height to make an entrance to our brand new house. This was so exciting, but I soon began to realize that this was a lot of hard work. The project was going to take a great deal of time and effort to complete in a timely manner.

I worked all day and into the night. It took me about a week and a few days to build my new home. The thought of impressing my wife-to-be kept me motivated and focused. I went deeply into the tree, making room for my future family.   Remember, this dwelling is going to be my castle for a long time to come."
